View Full Version : Upgraded version of Kursk added to our #2 Server

After much testing by our TLB server managers and council... (apparently they sent the map file on a long slow boat to China and it came back in one piece. So it passed)An upgraded version of Kursk has been added to ALB #2.

Each team has an additional jeep.

A stationary MG facing forward from the barn window. Added plane protection against the pilots who fly smart. (Some call it the anti-Wu)

2 AA guns. The AA guns are nerfed by being behind buildings, so they don't dominate the map.

The out of bounds has been removed so the planes have more room to fly. (you'll still see the out of bounds on the mini-map)

Net flag spawns a light tank instead of a heavy.

Sawmill spawns 1 arty instead of 2.

The whole point is to make it more competitive with a chance for more back and forth.

Congrats Run and thanks staffing for the efforts. Should be fun! First couple day's I'm just gonna AA the plane rapers!

Run, we decided early on to wait until you reached 565 posts before giving the go-ahead on these. Seems like it took forever. :P

TGV, the effort was all Run's.

it did seem to be easier to get off the ground in a plane last night, although i kept hitting the ground shortly after take off....................DOHH

Seems to work great. A ton more plane action in the middle, where it belongs.

1 kick yesterday for a fool destroying a plane on the runway with the AA to prevent someone else from getting it. But that is an easy kick compared to the arguing about eternal strafing.

The changes on this map have been a HUGE improvement. Hats off and back slapping to those involved!

However...

It still is a map where one side often dominates quickly and degenerates into a "almost" base camping affair soon after. The real problem on this map is just piss poor map design on EA's part. Well, thats my opinion anyway.

I think this map could be improved some still though. Here are some ideas:

1) Add a couple of pill-boxs about half way between spawn points and the map.
2) Add a couple of those tracked bike thingys to help people get to the flags faster
3) Perhaps some additional buildings on the high hills around the two flags would open up the defense some?
4) More trees blocking the view of defenders might help make getting closer to the flags possible for the struggling defenders.
5) A parachute drop point for the team with no flags in the middle of the map would mix things up nice.
6) Tell me to STFU and move on...

I do like the paraspawn idea. As you said though, it's EA's map design. I actually rather like Kursk though. I've never had a problem with getting out of the mainbase, at the very least, since we added AA and the Anti Wu MG.

Alot of the tweaks you mention would require a full-on mod of the map, which would mean players would have to download the map, which would mean nobody would play it.

All changes that have been made to date are server-side only. No need to download a new map.

As I well know OC... I hate that damn MG!!!!! It definately makes me think twice about coming near your base when you're manning the damn thing... I'd be half way across the map and I could still see the damn MG fire trying to get me. Every once in a while I'd just fly high and dive bomb the damn barn, I bet you liked that :)

Anyway just dropping by to say a quick hello! :shock:

He has probably forgoten how to play 42 since he went over to the dark side. Not to mention the fact that every time I even THINK I see or smell an obestu on the map I NADE every thing/one till he leaves.:D Sup Obestu,,, Still think the AA guns should be placed on the hills in this map. Far enuff back that they cant see the middle but close enuff to help the tanks get half way to the flags before getting turned to scrap by the planes.
