I just have a few questions, maybe someone can answer them. I have been playin bf1942 since it came out. I was always good at holding my own at flying when it came down to it. Lately Ivelost the edge in dogfighting. So whats better to use for flying? Joystick or Mouse? I have a Saitek Cyborg 3D Gold for joystick yet sometimes I get pwned by certain peeps online. Its a decent stick but now and again, more often now, some of these guys just run me over without even tryin. Am I missing something here?

Wish I could help you, but I suck so bad at flying I've resigned myself to hitching rides on them instead of piloting them............

Joystick is better.

There are still some very good pilots playing this game, some of them have been playing flight sims for years.

Dogfighting has changed in the last few years, it is more vertical now.

It's just a balance of altitude, speed, and timing your moves. If decent pilots are playing a competitive, high-altitude style in a pub, you pretty much have to do the same to counter them. Most decent pilots don't bother climbing so high in a pub, so it just becomes a game of who sees who first and is able to maneuver into position to get a good shot.

I suppose you're right about that. It does seem that most pilots are great at being up higher in altitude than others. Me, I'm more of a support role for ground forces. Ill try to take out other pilots first so I can have open skies to bomb the enemy. Thats whats most important. take out the armor so your team can do hand to hand. odds are much better. They might be able to walk all over me in the sky, but im taking 2 or 3 tanks with me before i get shot down by another pilot. Flags are all that matter.

Hey Poppa, I have been flying in the real world for about 30 years, about 8 of them in the Navy flying fighters. Flying in the game is NOT anything like actually fighting in real life, BUT some things DO apply. For instance, with lots of bogeys around you do NOT want to get tied up in a prolonged fight or furball with many contacts. Plus, you do not want to get slow unless you have to. If you do commit to an engagement, you can not disengage usually, it is a fight to the finish. My favorite type of flying in game is in support of the ground troops, but you can't do that if there is another pilot who "hunts" you by being at altitude, I basically just give up supporting the ground ops and fly only air to air in that case.

I personally use an ancient Microsoft sidewinder joystick.
