I would rather our clan drop CAL as well if it werent for the challenge it offers. The lack of leadership and organization is starting to make me think differently though.
I appreciate the quick response though.
I sent Cal|Russ a message telling him the situation, but I doubt anything will be done about it. Our time will just be wasted and we will be given the forfeit win. Horray for preseason. Horray for CAL shortcomings.
You guys should drop by our server sometime. We usually run mod's on saturday nights...we take polls on our site to decide what mod to run.

I spent an afternoon on your server last month and had a great time... I have it set in my favorites and will be back there again soon...

Posted to the CAL forums (http://forums.caleague.com/index.php?showtopic=31600&st=15):
Dear CAL,
We had some good times, didn't we? Remember the upset wins? The come-from-behinds and the near collapses that we somehow pulled out? Those got our hearts racing! Even some of our losses were bittersweet, especially when they were to a quality team, with quality people.
And even after the failed playoff runs, you were still there for us, weren't you, with the promise of a new season.
But CAL, we just never learned to deal with the pettiness, the conflict and the flames. Don't you see? It wasn't working out. We needed space.
Things are different now, CAL. There's...somebody else. It's a 12 team league, with no forfeits. They're witty and charming, and there's not an asshat among them. We field two 12-man teams now, and we're better off.
The children don't need us anymore - thay're almost full grown. Let them experience the thrill of season seven without the pain of forfeits.
It's flattering that you keep calling on us, but trust us, CAL - it's better this way.
Attached, please find a restraining order. Stop scheduling us. For once, think of the children.
Signed,
The Lazy Bastards

Boy you sure showed them Bart. I am sure that they are still staggering.
I am no longer TLB, and have been forced away from gaming for these last few months, but this post (and the replies) really surprised me. Although cute and funny, Bart’s message is silly. I am sure the post burned bridges with CAL, and this opinion will only burn my bridges with TLB. So be it. No one else seemed to speak out.
CAL is a good league. The best players play there. It is not a coincidence that the league leads the way with each new premier online game and it is affiliated with CPL. Let's just just realize that many of the best gamers are kids…and some say stupid things. However, most CAL dudes are very cool ….just like the TLB population. On whole, the league is solid. Having a BF league since October 2002 (7 seasons) says something.
CAL BF1942 is going through admin changes. That should explain some of the scheduling/signup miscues.
You guys need to be honest. Most TLB never had problems with interactions with other CAL players or clans. At the best, TLB support for the CAL team was weak (i.e., maybe 12-14 available each week… in a 70-man clan). This was not because CAL was full of immature evil nasty bad-guys…but because on whole….TLB regularly lost in CAL. These losses were because we did not practice as much….not necessarily because we were not as good as players…nothing to be ashamed of. That was cool with some TLB. Not cool with others.
Now why did TLB CAL not work IMO? A) Limited TLB practices B) Dudes tired of losing….and yes….way down on the list ….for a select few leaders who dealt w/ CAL admins….Z) Some CAL dudes are ass-hats. Granted.
So TLB moves on to an easier league that requires less practice to be successful. TLB wins. TLB then fields two 12-man teams. That is very cool. That is respectful. No problem. Fun gaming is what is important.
TLB left because the CAL league was more work that we could put in for it to be fun for most members. Not fun to loose to the Division I squads. More rewarding to play and beat the Division II teams.
Telling CAL the reason that TLB left is because of our laziness…would have been honest & priceless. Bart telling CAL the reason that TLB left is because of their immature behavior….weak.
Yeah, I know…bridge burned.

Burning Bridge??? I dont hold that post against you in any way VK. This is america and everyone has a right to their opinion and you speak honestly when you write the above. I hope you dont think that bad of us, that you believe we would shun you for writing your thoughts down. You are right, jalf of us are just too lazy for CAL and the other half cant committ the time to be a top caliber team. As for the letter, what can I say Bart will be Bart. Some like his humor, others find it offensive. I personally enjoy his witt. In closing I would like to reiterate that you will always be welcome here and I am sure the other guys agree with me. See you on the battlefield.

Yes, my message was silly. At least, that was my intention. I've been having a hard time of late, trying to convince people that some of what I write is silly, and to be taken with a grain of salt. For you to realize the sillyness, means I must be progressing.
VK, you once told us that any strats you wrote for Ubiquity had to have a degree of irreverent humour to them, so that your team would read them. Given that I was writing to the same type of crowd, I actually wrote a proper "We are not in CAL this season" reply, before deciding that it may be overlooked, and came up with the "Dear John" approach instead.
The work required to play with the top teams in CAL was one reason we left, but not the only reason. Cetainly, the childishness exhibited in the CAL forums is regrettable, but it's not the prime reason either.
3FL has a number of advantages over CAL. First, the playing field is more even. Our old CAL team is doing well at 5-0, but have lost a couple of individual rounds, and their more difficult opponents lie ahead. Our second team, with only moderately lower talent and experience, is 2-3. In most contests, the winner is in doubt. In CAL, most matches have all but been decided before they begin.
Second, we have no forfeits. Teams may be short one or two on occasion, but we've had zero no-shows, no byes on the schedule, and no difficulty finding our opposition. When I was leading CAL 8, we went three weeks between actual matches.
Third, "gentlemen's agreements" are made (and usually kept) regarding such tactics as pixelaiming and nade spamming, that make the game more fun and less dependent upon finding spots in the sky or handy ammo boxes.
Fourth, the forums are where things get communicated, team leaders write up synopses of past matches, and people occasionally get silly. It's a much more civil community. And though CAL has some good people (which I mentioned in my post as well), the CAL forums have always been the stomping grounds for a vocal minority of asshats, of all ages.
There were a number of us who were prepared to put in two scrims a week for CAL, but getting 12 was tough. You are right to conclude that we don't have to work as hard in 3FL, and on talent, it is a "Tier 2" league. Still, the level of talent is high enough that if we don't prepare, we lose. I think what we've learned is, you don't need to play in the best league with the best players. You need to find the best fit. 3FL fits us better than CAL, and that was what I wanted to convey.
If there are any similar teams left in CAL, maybe they'll PM me, asking about the league we've joined. I certainly do not want to promote 3FL by name in the CAL forums.
If my post was immature, well, at least the CAL trolls will relate to it, though they seem to have given up trying to upstage it.
No bridge burned here, VK. You're still the best flag defender I've known, and a credit to the game and the teams you play for.

I burned a bridge once. I was young, stupid and drunk off my ass. I was an old timey wooden bridge with the big steel support arches. We used to dive off the top into the river during the summer. One night we stopped mid pass to take a leak, and for some reason I thought it would be cute to set her ablaze. So I did.
Lucky for me it had been treated with creosote and it didn't burn long.

I agree with your post VK......losing almost every match was no fun, but at least we showed up for 3 straight seasons....I don't play much anymore, wednesday scrim and Sunday match for the most part (Tribes is cool though), it's nice to be able to win some matches. I agree though, Cal by far has the most skilled players in BF. You have to scrim 3-4 times a week just to compete with those guys...
